Data Gift: Free Time Hobbies

It is believed that pursuing a hobby or a leisure activity is very important to our life since it refreshes our mind, body and aids us to stay healthy, active and happy after getting nerves strained for work in a certain time. Obviously, free time hobbies give us a hand to promote socialization, physical activities as well as using our minds, which not only prevents dementia and Alzheimer?s but also give us awareness of our emotions, thoughts and behaviors. Leisure-time hobbies and recreational activities are indeed a source of pleasure for people of all ages, and choice for hobbies varies depending on different ages and professions. Realizing how much free time hobbies can benefit us, why don?t you consider and choose favorite hobbies for your own among many in my following list as a recommendation for you?

1. Collecting
Collecting always fascinates all people. Usually, I see that collecting is an unconscious decision. We actually have never thought of it until one day we realize that we have so many things of the same kind, for example up to 20 coins from many countries kept in a box after every trip. Finally, your accidental discovery gives you an interesting idea for collection.

There is no restriction on what we collect. We can collect all things that inspire us and of course, we can afford them as well. They can be mugs, bottles, medals, coins, stamps or shoes, clothes, jewels, antiques, etc., from inexpensive things to valuable objects. Collected things can be the same, but all collections are different and unique. Therefore, a collection can partly tell others your interest and personality. You are thinking of making your collection, aren?t you? Just get started with the idea and pay your all passion for the hobby. I assure that you will feel really relaxed and proud whenever you take a look at your collection in free time.

2. Arts and Crafts
Hobbies of this kind now seem to be female?s popular trend. There are various arts and crafts activities that you can engage in, such as drawing, painting, carving, pottery, music, sculpture, writing, fashion designing, making jewelry, etc.

If you are interested in this hobby, you should start with the simplest kind which suits your ability and you love to do best. This can be a chance to get yourself acquainted with arts and crafts. However, keep yourself patient and remember that you are just taking the hobbies for fun in your free time, not for productivity. To sum up, for those who want more exposure to arts and crafts, I suggest these hobbies should be taken in your leisure time.

3. Home Based Hobbies
These hobbies which family members of many generations can have at home are suitable for many objects, from teenagers to the elderly. There are many hobbies which may be pursued in and around the house, such as cooking, sewing and knitting, embroidery, gardening, etc.

4. Social Hobbies
Depending on their personalities, many people prefer hobbies which are based on social interaction with other people in their life. They like talking to the others, creating new social relationships through their daily activities. That?s the reason why in their free time, they choose to join a theatre groups, sing in a choir, play team sports, play in a band, etc.

In addition, when it comes to social hobbies, making phone calls in leisure time should be included. When free, some people like to call their beloveds, parents and friends. Asking about beloveds? health, jobs and career will help them update and maintain relationships.
Are you a kind of extroverted and sociable person? Think about these hobbies, try one and test yourself to see what kind of person you are, or at least, to relieve your mind.

5. Surfing the Internet
Nowadays, people have more chances to be exposed to computers together with the Internet, especially teenagers and white- collar workers. Teenagers tend to spend most of their free time after school on the Internet for completing assignments, or broadening their social knowledge. As for desk workers who are reluctant to go out in free time or not interested in collecting things or any indoor hand work usually consider Internet as a free time hobby although they work on computer in 8 hours per day. They are attracted by useful information about their concern on network. Obviously, surfing Internet in free time provides us with a large source of helpful knowledge.

Useful as the Internet is, it is advised that parents should control the Internet use of their children at teenage. Time and certain websites should be limited. Also, adults who are fully aware of computer?s effects on people?s health should consider and control your time on the Internet, despite the benefits and fun the Internet can bring you after work.

6. Reading
Upon increasing development of media and discovery of computers, we were once afraid that reading culture will die out soon. However, the reality proves the opposite. In free time, people currently spend their time reading a lot, especially young generation. This is really a good sign because reading surely can help us to broaden knowledge, improve our use of language, and enrich emotions. So if you are called a book worm because you read a lot in your free time, be proud of your habit and try to get others into your good habit. They must be very grateful to you later.

7. Brainstorming ideas
When asking some people about their recreational activities, I got an interesting answer that some of them don?t do anything, but resting and brainstorming ideas. They take brainstorming ideas as their free time hobby. They usually think about their goals, and write down a list of actions steps to make the goals a reality. Brainstorming is indeed a good hobby, I think.

8. Doing exercise
There?s no doubt about benefits that daily exercise can bring people. In order to keep body fit and healthy, health specialists advise people to take exercise every day, and jogging, hiking, climbing, martial arts, yoga or meditation can be chosen depending on your physical condition and time. Spending 30 minutes in your daily free time jogging will keep you away from many diseases, especially when old age is approaching. This leisure time hobby is suitable for all ages.

9. Making money
This hobby sounds weird but it is true. We may think that making money means working which is the invader of free time. However, some people don?t share the point because making money in free time earn them happiness and optimism, and they call it hobby. This is their favorite productive use of free time. They may write articles, translate documents, tutor, etc? to get money. I guess money from this hobby is their real joy. And you, what do you think?
