Presentation College in Aberdeen raises profile with new suites, more
Business After Hours at Presentation College
? What: Presentation College is hosting a networking mixer sponsored by the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce. Attendees can tour the facilities at the new wellness center.
? When: 5:15-7 p.m. Aug. 8.
? Where: Strode Center at Presentation College, 1500 N. Main St.

? Cost: $12 with an RSVP and $14 the day of the event.

?Presentation College's marketing slogan is "Stand Out" and the school is doing that as it works to raise its profile in Aberdeen and beyond.
?New suites for a growing student population are being built on campus. Half will be done before the fall semester begins, said Presentation marketing and public relations director Tim Beckham.
?The other half will be completed later in the fall. The suites will be able to house an additional 158 students, which will more than double housing capacity. Suites at the northwest end of campus can house 144 students.
?Another change to campus will be the conversion of the Strode Activity Center parking lot into a central campus green with benches and other features.
?At the Strode, a new Wellness Center is being completed. Machines and other weightlifiting equipment were installed last week. The center is for athletic training, as well as for use by faculty, staff and students.
?Beckham and administrators such as athletic director Brian Spielbauer and admissions director Adam Jenkins are working to increase visibility of the school.
?"We're on the north side of town, so people might not regularly see what's going on," Beckham said.
?The Aberdeen campus isn't the only one changing. The PC site in Sioux Falls recently moved into a new facility.
? There are other changes as well. Longtime vice president for enrollment JoEllen Lindner resigned from her post in January to take a job as president of the Aberdeen Catholic School System.
?"Any time you lose someone at PC, especially someone with a lot of experience who has helped expand the institution, it's not easy to replace them," Beckham said.
?Jenkins joined the staff a few weeks ago to fill the admissions director position.
?"I was really impressed when I saw they were progressing in this way," Jenkins said of the college.
?Jenkins was previously the interim director of admissions at Minnesota State University Moorhead. He also worked at University of Mary.

Factbox: How Zimbabwe election voting system works
HARARE (Reuters) - Zimbabwe holds presidential and parliamentary elections on July 31 in which Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai will try for the third time to unseat veteran President Robert Mugabe, who is seeking to extend his 33-year grip on power.
Below are five facts about the voting:
* Zimbabwe has 6.4 million registered voters who are expected to cast their ballots at 9,735 polling stations dotted around the southern African country.
* Voters directly elect a president, 210 members of parliament and more than 9,000 councilors. Sixty women will be appointed through proportional representation to the Lower House of Parliament while 60 people will be appointed in the Upper Senate via the same system.
* Voting starts at 0500 GMT ( 1:00 a.m. EDT) and ends at 1700 GMT (1:00 p.m. EDT). Vote tallying and counting starts immediately after the close of polls and results for council, parliament and president are posted outside each polling station.
* The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will announce winners for parliament in their constituencies, while results for president will be announced at the commission's headquarters in Harare within five days of voting.
* A presidential candidate requires 50 percent plus one vote for an outright win. In the event no candidate gets that, a run-off will be held on September 11 between the top two contestants.

Oil spill cleanup in North Logan continues
LOGAN ? Cleanup of an oil spill continued Sunday along a canal in the North Logan/ Hyde Park area.
Saturday night, Cache County officials discovered that the top coat of oil applied to a road construction project had washed away during a rainstorm that night and into a nearby canal. The oil carried over a five mile section of the canal.
Bear River Health Department spokeswoman Jill Parker said Sunday morning that the amount of oil that spilled into the canal was still being calculated.
The spill was contained and diverted late Saturday night into a field near Highway 91. Parker said drinking water in the area was never immediately in risk. Several departments were assisting with the cleanup Sunday.
Residents who notice their irrigation water is brown or has an unusual order were told not to water their properties.
A press conference was scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday to update residents on the situation.

Big Asteroid Flies By Earth Tonight: How to Watch Live
An asteroid as large as five football fields will zoom by Earth tonight, and you can watch the close approach live from the comfort of your home.
The near-Earth asteroid 2003 DZ15 will come within 2.2 million miles (3.5 million kilometers) of our planet? ? about nine times farther than the distance between Earth and the moon ? tonight (July 29) at 8:37 p.m. EDT (0037 GMT on July 30). There is no chance that 2003 DZ15 will strike Earth on this pass, scientists say.
The online Virtual Telescope Project will stream live footage of 2003 DZ15 beginning at 6 p.m. EDT (2200 GMT) tonight. The webcast will use views from a powerful telescope in Ceccano, Italy, along with live commentary by astrophysicist Gianluca Masi, who runs the Virtual Telescope Project. The 500-foot-wide (152 meters) asteroid will be too faint for most skywatchers to observe from their backyards, but folks can get a good look on their computer screens. Church relying on faith after three die in bus crash
Colonial Hills Baptist is a church in mourning, relying on their faith. Friends and family were gathered at the church, excited to welcome home children and family members, when they got news of the tragedy. A horrific bus crash claimed the lives of three members of the youth group, and several more were injured.
The church released this statement on their Facebook page early Sunday morning:
Thank you all for your tremendous outpouring of love and strength stated here and in numerous other ways. Through your prayers and the power of the Holy Spirit, the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be magnified as His people find Him to be sufficient even now. "Lord, because this is true - 'This God-His way is perfect; the Word of the LORD proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him' (Psalm 18:30)....please allow this to be true - 'May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope' (Romans 15:13)."
At the church Saturday evening, Colonial Hills Baptist Church Pastor Emeritus Bob Taylor said, "We know God's grace is sufficient."
Members of the Colonial Hills Baptist Church weren't asking why Saturday afternoon.
"We know that God is in control and this was not a surprise to the Lord," said Pastor Emeritus Taylor.
The bus that crashed was part of a caravan of about 65?youth group church members?traveling back from Michigan. The youngest children - fourth grade and younger -?were on a yellow school bus. They were not injured.
The older children were on the bus that crashed. A married couple was killed in the crash, along with a teenager. Several teenagers were injured.
Church?members?comforted each other and the dozens of teens and young children who were on two buses when the one carrying the teens crashed just a mile from church returning from summer camp.
"They saw a lot. They saw some difficult things and they're dealing with it," said Jeff Leffew, parent and church deacon.
Jeff Leffew was at the church waiting for his four daughters to return.
"It's challenging their faith most certainly," said Leffew.
Leffew knew immediately something was wrong when only one bus pulled into the parking lot.
"We noticed immediately all the kids were screaming through the window and out the window and that wasn't normal," he said.
The bus driver got off that bus with the terrible news.
"He asked if I would pray, even though we didn't know what was happening other than there was a bus wreck and it wasn't good," said Leffew.
Leffew rushed to the chaotic scene at 96th and Keystone to try to find three of his daughters who were on the bus that crashed.
"They said I couldn't and I said, 'You're just going to have to do whatever you're going to have to do, but I'm going.' I figured if I could put my eyes on 'em and then go to jail, that would be worth it," said Leffew.
That's when Leffew saw his daughters, knew they were okay, but learned three others had lost their lives.
"It was surreal. It just didn't seem real," said Leffew.
The scene drew dozens of emergency crews and Mayor Greg Ballard, who later came to the church to offer comfort.
"It's very clearly that they are being guided by their faith right now. It's very evident," said Mayor Ballard.
This church family is drawing upon their faith now in the face of tragedy, asking the community to pray for them in their time of grief.
City-County Council President Maggie A. Lewis issued this statement:
"My prayers are with the families of Colonial Baptist Church whose lives will be forever changed after the bus accident which occurred earlier today. To the many first responders who were on sight, thank you for your courage and untiring efforts in handling this tragic situation. I encourage all of us to keep the entire Colonial Baptist Church community in our thoughts and prayers."
